Ma’aji Sumaila Follows Up on AKY’s Minjibir Visit, Inspects Gidan Murtala Offices Renovation

Following the recent inspection by His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, at Minjibir General Hospital, the Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, yesterday, led a team of engineers to the hospital site to follow up on the Governor’s observations.

The Commissioner’s visit aimed to ensure the contractor handling the renovation addressed the issues raised by the Governor. Among the concerns highlighted were wall screeding, painting, landscaping, electrical wiring, and plumbing.

Speaking directly to Kabara Investment Ltd, the firm responsible for the renovation, the Commissioner stressed that the issues must be resolved within two weeks, ahead of the Governor’s return to commission the 5-kilometer road project in the area.

“I assure you that His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, will not tolerate substandard or poor-quality work. This is why we are committed to supporting his vision and ensuring quality delivery across all projects,” he said.

He urged the contractor to take immediate action on the Governor’s observations and report any challenges to the Ministry for prompt resolution.

At the Gidan Murtala Offices Complex, the Commissioner also inspected renovation works at key government offices including the Ministry for Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Office of the Auditor General for Local Government.

In his assessment, the Commissioner described the work as largely commendable, though he pointed out a few areas where the contractor must accelerate efforts to meet the stipulated completion deadline.

However, he expressed concern over the temporary displacement of some ministries due to the renovation, noting that it had affected the functionality of staff operations—an issue he described as unfortunate.

During a visit to the Kano Printing Press, the Commissioner observed no significant improvement since his last visit. He instructed the Ministry’s information unit to document the current state of work, as a detailed report will be submitted to the Governor.

“There has been no meaningful progress in the renovation of the Printing Press offices or the new Kano State Printing Technology Institute. We will file reports on both contractors based on what we observed,” he lamented.

The Commissioner also inspected the ongoing 5-kilometer road project in Fagge Local Government, which is divided into three segments: New Road in Sabon Gari, within Fagge Quarters, and in the Kurnar Asabe area. He noted that, based on current progress, it is unlikely that all segments will meet the five-month completion deadline set by His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
